During a lull at work today, I decided to head to the bookstore in the mall across the street to take a gander not only at this week’s Weekly ファミ通 (Famitsu), but at the latest artbooks on sale, as it had been a while. Usually I find artbooks of various games I either have a mild investment in, or horribly detest.
On occasion I find an artbook that I really love, and that’s when a Design Works post is born. This week was one of those special weeks, as after finding piece meal compendiums for the Gyakuten Saiban (逆転裁判, Ace Attorney in North America) series, I finally found a proper artbook collection chronicling not only the original trilogy, but also the DS only entry, Gyakuten Saiban 4.
Naruhodo Book:
Odoroki Book:
The collection is split into two books: Naruhodo’s (Phoenix’s) book, and Odoroki’s (Apollo’s) book. Naturally, Naruhodo’s book is much larger, having to encompass three games. Odoroki’s book seems to focus more on the detail of each character in the fourth game, which gives the otherwise brief artbook a lot of depth.
The books come housed in a beautiful case that features art from the fourth game in the series, and the pages of each book are high quality glossy paper as we have come to expect from Capcom Publishing, with high resolution printing and ink. The set altogether costs a whopping ￥3800, but the package as more than worth it, considering the contents. The book is brand new, but like all game-related art books, printing is likely to be severely limited. Check with your nearest import gaming establishment for ordering availability.
I could be wrong, but I believe the character designer for all the GS games is Tatsuro Iwamoto. Anyone is free to correct me if I’m painfully incorrect.
