Ragnarok Online fans who have, possibly for years, wanted to know what those adorable slime creatures, porings, taste like, have finally found their chance in the form of convenience store chain Circle K/Sunkus. Added to their list of まん(mahn – stuffed and steamed bread dumplings) flavors, Sunkus has added the ポリンまん (porinmahn). The ポリンまん is sweet, rather than savory, containing custard cream, according to the ad.
Those of you living in the Kansai area will know fully well that special flavors only last for a month or so, so be sure to try it before it disappears. Here’s a quick cell phone snap shot from the Sunkus next to my office:

The outside of a mahn is actually more like soft soft bread, rather than crispy fried batter. Believe it or not, croquettes are in Japan too, and they’re pretty popular!
The mahn looks a lot like the croquettes you get in the Netherlands. The outside of the croquettes are a breaded shell not unlike that of a fish finger and the inside is a creamy meat filling which oozes out when you bite into the croquette. Croquettes are a lot tastier than they sound. The mahn sounds like a cross between a Dutch croquette and the Chinese eggy tart. Hmmm…
